Mac Poker Room Recommendations

Own a Mac but don't know where to play online poker? On this site, I will make recommendations of the best Mac poker rooms. You can play for free or you can choose to play online poker for real money.

My first recommendation is FullTiltPoker.com. Full Tilt Poker has taken the lead as the number one online poker room that still accepts US citizens. They have also come up with some interesting ideas so players can easily make deposits. Their Mac poker client is a downloadable .dmg file and is packed full of features. Read my full review of Fulltilt Poker.

Next on the list is BugsysClub.com. They are also still accepting US poker players. I'm not as hip about them as Full Tilt Poker, but I do give them credit for having a large assortment of tournaments and a 100% up to $600 deposit bonus. Read the full review of Bugsys Club by clicking the link.

Unfortunately, there aren't any other Mac compatible poker rooms that cater to US players at this time. If I find any other major rooms accepting players, I'll be sure to update them here.

Why Online Poker Doesn't Work for Macs

It's quite unfortunate that most online poker rooms don't have poker for Macs, but there is a reason for this. Most poker rooms use executable (.exe) files, which aren't compatible with Macintosh OS.

We have listed Mac compatible poker rooms on our site. In addition to that, our readers can receive exclusive poker bonuses from iMac Online Poker.

Pokerstars Still Working On Mac Poker Software - October 5, 2007

Just received another update from Pokerstars on their Mac poker client they've been working on for about a year. It seems that players now have quite a few more options than before, and the full release doesn't look far away.

Here's what I received from Pokerstars:

Hello,

Another new version of the Mac client has been released.  This newest version
includes some changes to the "Techno" table theme, and the option to save
your hand histories to your hard drive.  You can activate that feature by
clicking Options > Instant Hand History Options in the lobby.  (The "Instant
Hand History" has not yet been enabled.)

More internal technical bugs were addressed, too.

You should receive this update automatically when you launch the program.
If you are running a much older version of the Mac program, you may have to
re-download it from the original web page.

Thanks for your help.

Regards,

Scott

In addition to that, they have been working on the ability to cascade and tile windows on a Mac. This feature is meant to add the ability to multi-table at Pokerstars for Mac. I'm not sure what else they have in store, as the software appears to be complete. Hopefully the full version will be here soon.

Hello,

Another new version of the Mac client has been released.  This newest version
includes the ability to "tile" and "cascade" multiple tables by using on

Get $25 Extra at Pacific Poker - April 25, 2007

One of the poker bonuses that we like to tell our readers about is the $25 extra from Pacific Poker. Why? Because no other online poker site can offer what we can to their readers.

And signing up to play online poker at Pacific Poker isn't like buying something from the store. You can use the money that you deposit to win more money. For instance, if you deposit $100, you'll get 25% ($25) plus $25 (now that's $50) and entry into those Mac poker tournaments. In addition to that, you could have won a $50 sit-n-go, another $250. Problems With Mac Pokerstars - April 25, 2007

Not very many people have heard, but Pokerstars is working on their Mac poker software right now, they have been for several months now. We received a version of their software, which is in stage Alpha at the moment, but it didn't seem to work very well.

Well, we weren't the only ones that were having problems playing Pokerstars for Mac. Apparently, many other people made complaints as well, causing the Pokerstars.com staff to send all Alpha Mac poker software testers a warning email to discontinue use of the software.

Hopefully these problems will be patched soon and we'll see a stable build of the Mac Pokerstars software. It will give US poker players a chance to play with the rest of the US poker players already playing on the world's largest online poker site.

Barney Frank to Repeal Online Gambling "Ban" - April 25, 2007

Reporters interviewed Senator Barney Frank recently about his plans to repeal a very important section of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Act of 2006 (UIEGA). Senator Frank made a statement that he only has certain jurisdiction over the bill, so he would not be repealing all of it. His plans are to get rid of the section that applies directly to his committee, which deals directly with credit cards. Barney made this statement:

"My committee only has jurisdiction over credit cards. I can't do more than repeal the ban on the use of credit cards. We don't have jurisdiction generally over the Internet or other aspects of this," Frank said.

Additionally, Senator Frank said that he would push "full throttle" unless he hears a large outcry from the American public to do so. In light of this, a petition has been started. You can sign the petition to repeal credit card restrictions for online gambling by simply clicking the link.

Steve Jobs vs. Bill Gates in the iWorld Cartoon - March 20, 2007

A friend of mine who runs a news blog added a very funny Mac related video the other day. Once I saw it, I knew that I just had to share it with as many people as I could, especially Mac poker players. Anyways, this video has already been viewed on YouTube over 700,000 times, and I can imagine that is only a fraction of the total views in which it will receive. So check it out, you know what to do:

PPA Signs Former Senator in Lobbyist Deal - March 6, 2007

Since the democrats came into power just last year, it seems that things are looking up for online poker players in the United States. I found this article in the NY Times about a former republican senator from New York named Alfonse M. D’Amato who has made an agreement with the Poker Player's Alliance to begin lobbying for poker. I encourage you to check it out, as it is a good read.

Party Poker Upgrades Poker Bonuses - February 22, 2007

We just caught word that Party Poker has increased their poker bonuses for new depositing players. Now instead of receiving 20% up to $100, they are giving away 120% up to $200. And they've also upgraded their flat $25 bonus to a flat $50 bonus.

However, there is sort of a catch to it. The poker bonuses are actually almost the same as they were before; the only difference is that there is another "part" added to releasing the full bonus. Here are the complete details from the PartyPoker.com website:

120% up to $200 - Bonus Code 200IMAC

  • First Bonus -
    • 20% of first deposit upto $100 release restricted bonus.

  • Second Bonus -

$50 - Bonus Code 50IMAC

  • First Bonus -
    • $25 Bonus on first deposit.
    • Minimum deposit amount = $50.
    • Bonus release criteria: 125 Raked Hands on Poker OR Wager $125.00 on Gammon
  • Second Bonus -

Mac Gamer Transforms Into Mac Ledge - February 13, 2007

For all of you who have enjoyed the Mac games offered by MacGamer.com, you may be interested to hear this news. MacGamer.com has announced that they will be moving all of their content and games to a new domain, MacLedge.com. MacLedge.com has already provided users with very similar Mac games and content and has been operated as a sister site for at least a year now.

We aren't sure what will happen with MacGamer.com after the move, but I hear that it is privately owned and the owner has plans set in place. We are eagerly trying to find out exactly what is going to happen, but it seems that this information is currently confidential. For now, it is expected that MacGamer.com will simply forward its visitors to MacLedge.com. We have been told that this redirection will be in place for at least several months.

New US Payment Processors Emerge - February 6, 2007

Since the loss of Neteller as a United States payment processor, there have been a large fallout of companies emerging through the thicket. It seems that these new companies have been popping up everywhere on a daily basis, many of which seem to cater specifically to certain online poker rooms or online casinos. It is sad really, that the United States is allowing such an event to occur. Nobody knows just who they can trust as a payment processor anymore as the chances of a rogue company developing have increased. Don't worry though, some of the larger online poker rooms have sorted through payment processors to help US poker players find a trustworthy payment processor to use.

One of the most payment processors of the past seems to remain as the most popular choice of US poker players today. The company is ePassPorte, and they have been around for a number of years. We have witnessed companies such as Neteller and Firepay pull out of the United States poker market, yet ePassPorte remains and continues to process payments.

One of the most talked about new payment processor is known as Wirecard. Wirecard is endorsed by Mastercard and is a great way to send money internationally. Most transactions can be completed in less than a minute and you can use your Wirecard just as you would any other credit card or debit card. On their website, Wirecard asserts that their customers can take advantage of the same benefits they could as with any other full bank account.

Another new poker deposit option is called MyWebATM. MyWebATM is currently being pushed very hard by Full Tilt Poker, and is also boasting the advantage of being a full bank account. Your MyWebATM card is accepted at hundreds of thousand of ATMs worldwide, not to mention that you can quickly load your Full Tilt Poker account with it. If it's your first time depositing, make sure to use the FullTilt Poker bonus code iMac600 to get a 100% up to $600 deposit bonus.

Quick Response From GamesGrid - January 30, 2007

It appears that my news spread quickly, as it only took a couple of hours for GamesGrid to contact me with an explanation about their Mac poker software problems. I was told by the GamesGrid representative that the reason behind the removal of the GamesGrid Mac poker software download was due to a large update that has been made. Apparently, there are added features that are not compatible with the old Mac poker software.

If you are a Windows poker player you won't have any problems. Why? Because GamesGrid has already updated their Windows software to handle the new features. I was told that the GamesGrid player base is mostly Windows users, so I guess they decided to update that first. When I asked how long it would be before the Mac poker version was finished I was told that there is not currently a timeline, but that it was currently being worked on.

GamesGrid Goes AWOL - January 30, 2007

I've been receiving a few complaints about how GamesGrid has seemed to disappear for new Mac players. After reviewing these complaints, I decided to go and check things out for myself. I began by going on over to the GamesGrid website, which has always been one of my favorite looking Mac poker websites. After staring at the page while it loaded, I clicked the super flashy "download game" button that they have placed on their site for the sole purpose of annoying you until you click it.

Anyways, now I'm at the download center and staring directly at the top section that clearly states Poker for Macintosh with a Mac symbol on it. Everything looks just swell so far, you even see the file name http://www.gamesgrid.com/download_poker_mac.php come up when you hover over the download button. However, this is right where we run into some problems with downloading their Mac poker software.

When you are on the download center page, and click the button, you'd expect to be brought to the .dmg download. However, this is not the case. Rather, you are redirected to the GamesGrid homepage without any explanation of why your poker download for Mac isn't working. Many people would try again, but it's useless... the Macintosh poker version simply won't work. Even worse, the backgammon programs work for both Mac and Windows and the poker game still works for Windows.

Is this the start of a loss of online poker rooms for Mac poker players? I sure hope not, and certainly don't think so. There are a few other companies that are coming out with new mac poker clients soon, such as Absolute Poker for Mac. I'm not concerned about losing rooms that support poker for Mac. What I am concerned about is the United States government and their lack of concern for the freedom of their citizens to play online poker.

Another Update to Deposit Options - January 25, 2007

It appears as if Click2Pay has also shut the doors to US accounts. If you're in the US you can no longer open up a new account with Click2Pay. However, it appears that ePassporte is still in the game. Feel free to read more about ePassporte by clicking the link.

Apple Reports Top Revenue Earnings - January 25, 2007

Apple had a great last quarter reporting over $7.1 billion in revenue, with about $1 billion being profit. They saw a large amount of growth in both domestic and global sales. Here is some extra information about their sales for those who are interested:

  • Mac computers sold
    • 1.6 million
      • Laptops: 969,000
      • Desktops: 637,000
  • iPods sold
    • 21.06 million
  • Growth in Europe
    • 27%
  • Growth in America
    • 21%
  • Growth in Japan
    • (14%)

So it appears as if things are looking up for Apple, which is one of the most popular investments in the United States right now. I'm confident that their Apple iPhone will only increase their sales. I've also been told that a poker game will be packaged with the iPhone when it's released. Until then, we're just going to have to settle with the usual Mac poker rooms that we're used to.

Neteller Stops US Poker Player Transactions - January 19, 2007

Some of you may have already heard the news, but in case you haven't I'll tell you now. Neteller, the leading online gambling transaction e-wallet company, has announced the shutdown of transactions with online gambling establishments for US accounts. US poker players are not allowed to create new accounts with Neteller at this time and transactions with the online gambling companies, such as Fulltilt Poker, have been halted for current Neteller customers.

For those of you who have been using Neteller as their primary service, you will not be able to cash out your money back into your Neteller account. However, plan B has already been established. Another well known and trusted online financial institution known as Click2Pay is still accepting new US accounts. If you sign up for a new Click2Pay account, you'll be happy to hear that most of the Mac poker rooms that are listed on this website already accept Click2Pay as a recognized payment method.

You can learn more about Neteller's announcement to stop gambling transactions by clicking the link to their website

Article About Mac Poker - January 8, 2007

I'm still trying to get used to typing 2007 instead of 2006, but I'm sure I'll come around soon. Anyways, I'm going to be talking with more poker rooms about getting you guys some more private freerolls. For now though, I've gone ahead and posted a new, more current, Mac poker article. I hope that you enjoy it.

Happy New Year - January 1, 2007

I hope that all of you out there have had a very happy new year, I know that I did. I was fortunate enough to be able to spend the last few weeks with my family and some of it with my beautiful girlfriend. I just wanted to take the time to let all of you know that poker isn't everything in life, especially during the holidays. Make sure that you take a break and cherish the family that you have while they are still here. You never know, they could be gone tomorrow, not to mention that you could have been dealt some cold cards during the time that you are visiting them!

I've also just added another poker strategy article to the site about pot limit Texas Holdem. I call the article How to Play Draws in Pot Limit Holdem, and all you pot limit players out there should enjoy it. Again, happy new years and I hope this year is even better than the last! Here's an eCard for you especially from us and 888.com.

Changes in Funding Your Poker Accounts - November 27, 2006

I wrote an article today about the changes that are occuring in the way that poker and casino players will be funding online poker accounts.

Full Tilt Poker Overtakes Party Poker - November 21, 2006

For the first time in history, Party Poker is not in the top two online poker rooms in terms of real money traffic. According to the gambling traffic monitoring website, PokerSiteScout.com, Full Tilt Poker averaged 3,992 real cash players over the last 7 days while PartyPoker averaged just 3,513.

It's easy for me to say just why this is true. It's all happening because of the decision to pull out of the United States market by many online poker companies. Full Tilt Poker decided to make the claim that they're "here to stay" while the other companies slowly depart.

It is apparent that the US poker players who used to play at popular online poker sites such as Party Poker, Pacific Poker, and PokerRoom have been seeking a place to play poker online. Full Tilt Poker just happened to be one of the few online poker rooms that still accept US players, not to mention that there are even fewer online poker rooms that still cater to Mac poker players.

Find an Online Poker Tournament Now - November 2, 2006

I just installed a new multi-table poker tournament software feed and it's going to blow you away. If you are anything like me, you don't enjoy waiting around for a poker tournament just because its the only one being played. Rather, you would prefer to find a multi-table poker tournament that is beginning very soon. Good, because that is just what this new software does.

You don't have to download anything either, unless the tournament of your choice is taking place at an online poker room that you haven't signed up for you. And even if this is the case, the poker tournament monitor has links that will help you download the software right away.
